Industrial project METEX NØØVISTA

METEX NØØVISTA is a joint venture between METabolic EXplorer, as majority shareholder, and Bpifrance-managed Société de Projets Industriels (SPI), that will allow the industrialisation of the Metex’s process for the production of biobased PDO (1.3 Propanediol) and BA (Butyric Acid).

The CHEMESIS chemical platform located in the Grand Est region (Carling-Saint-Avold) was selected for the establishment of this new plant. METEX made this choice for reasons of geography (raw materials and finished product logistics), for economic reasons (competitive access to the industrial utilities and services shared by the industrial operators at the platform) and for human reasons.

METEX NØØVISTA will produce and market in the first phase of operations 5kt of PDO (1,3 Propanediol) and 1kt of BA (Butyric Acid) in markets such as cosmetics, animal nutrition, and food products. These biobased molecules offer alternatives to current petrochemical solutions. The production process is patented and it is the only one in the world to concomitantly produce two molecules, the benefits of which will respond to both health issues and the expectations of today’s consumers from non-GMO and palm free plant resources.
Ultimately, for the second phase, the capacity will be increased to 20kt of PDO per year and 4kt of BA.

Following the actual start of construction in the first half of 2019 and the groundbreaking ceremony on 18 July, work is proceeding according to plan with the aim of bringing the PDO / BA unit into operation in the 2nd quarter of 2021.
In all, METEX NØØVISTA plans to create around 50 direct jobs in the Grand Est.
